10 TROON PRIVÉ CONNECT To swing faster and hit the ball farther you need to understand where the necessary speed and power come from The ground and your ability to stay firmly connected to it is the main source for power in the golf swing Having more speed starts with loading the back hip at the top of the backswing and then driving aggressively off that back side up and into the front side I didnt mention the arms and hands because once you effectively load and fire with the proper sequence the positive byproduct is the arms and hands moving faster I call this Load and Explode A medicine ball can be a very useful tool to create the feeling of loading the back hip and then firing through impact with a powerful sequence This medicine ball exercise is not meant to replicate the golf swing but to reinforce good power producing habits By Trevor T A Anderson Start in a balanced golf posture holding the medicine ball firmly with both hands The spine and pelvis should be flat and neutral allowing for efficient rotation Use a relatively light medicine ball no more than four to six pounds The objective is to move the ball fast but fully under control Balance is a priority to maintain control and accuracy throughout While keeping the torso within the width of the feet keep the arms long rotate the shoulders and chest back and reach the medicine ball outside of the back thigh Slightly lower the hips back and toward the floor to begin loading the rear hip Be sure to feel the activation in the rear hip not only in the quad to prepare the loaded hip for the explosion phase You must load to effectively explode Once you have dynamically loaded into the rear hip start the throw by powerfully driving off the rear side Use the ground to enhance your speed and power Initiate the sequence by moving laterally with the lower body first and then continue up and into the front side allowing the upper body to follow Throw the ball forcefully and be sure to finish in full balance with a nice golf swing finish Perform three sets of 10 repetitions on each side right and left The medicine ball can either be thrown to a partner or into a wall LOAD AND EXPLODE Based in Orlando Florida Trevor Anderson known as T A is the creator of GOLFleticism and has worked with Under Armour as director of golf performance since 2013 For more information about Trevor go to www GolfLeticism com or follow him on Twitter and Instagram at @ ta2claps THE LOOP FITNESS 1 START 2 LOAD 3 EXPLODE 1 2 3 LIGHTWEIGHTSTABILITYLOCKDOWNTRACTIONGORE TEX WATERPROOFJORDAN SPIETH@ JORDANSPIETHMADETO SCORE
